Use Web 2.0 (Social Sites) to get a Mobile presence quickly…

Strategy is the why and what part of your social media activity. Strategy seems abstract and that is why people often go directly to action/tactics (ie starting a Twitter account) without a plan. You want more sales NOW and Tactics “feel” more like real work. So don’t go for the new shiny tools to automate anything, and make some plans first. Did you write out your goals?

eg. We need a social media presence to…
* Sales
* Brand awareness
* Brand reputation
* Share of voice
* Customer loyalty
* Lower support cost
* Reduce R&D spend
* Lower cost per hire / fast hiring.

Next: get your mindset. Social media means long term commitment. You can’t do it with a four week blitz. You have to be there for the long haul. This also means that you will not get results to brag about in the first week.

Let’s help you get a measurable social media strategy.

(1)You should have clear understanding what resources you have at your disposal. If you get all this done, execution should be a breeze!
a. What Do You Do?
Describe what your company does in a single sentence. Make it Twitter short – max 120 characters.

b. Where does your target audience gather?
Find all the conversations that mention your brand directly or related to you in general.  Maybe search for your major competitors?
List the most important social media channels for you: It may not be Facebook, or LinkedIN or Twitter, etc.  Search social bookmarking and news sites like Digg and StumbleUpon to find those smaller but influential social sites.

c. What content gets the most reactions?  Plan on using your assets to answer their questions.  You have timesaving templates, spreadsheets, PDF one page summaries, PPT slide decks, video that you could share.

d. Who are the influencers in each channel?  Do you have any relationship with them to leverage?

Now you have content and a list of sites & Contributors.
IF YOU DON’T have content, go back and create it.  YES, that means WORK!
